Nationalist politician. Born in Glasgow and educated at the University of Glasgow, Winnie Ewing practised law before becoming the Member of Parliament for Hamilton (1967-70) and then Moray and Nairn (1974-79). She has been a Member of the European Parliament since 1975 and of the Scottish Parliament (since 1999). She became President of the Scottish National Party (SNP) in 1987. She now lives in Elgin.
